The Environmental Protection Agency last month imposed more restrictions on wood-burning stoves. The new laws will affect all Americans who purchase new wood stoves next year to heat their homes. The new laws that were enacted last month will tighten the restrictions on emissions that currant stoves presently discharge. The move will also outlaw the production of up to 80 percent of America’s present wood-burning stoves.
The EPA’s new standards would reduce emissions by one-third next year and by 80 percent in five years. The proposed rule would not affect existing woodstoves currently in use at this time in people’s homes. I would be willing to bet that it’s going to make them a lot more valuable in the future. They will no longer be as valuable for a trade in on a new stove as they once were but I would be willing to bet that it’s going to create a new market for them with second party sales. Only weeks after EPA enacted its new stove rules, the attorney general’s of Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Vermont, sued the EPA to crack down on wood-burning water heaters as well. They claimed that the new regulations didn’t go far enough to decrease particle pollution levels. Wood is the oldest heating method known to mankind and the mainstay of many rural homes. The agency’s one-size-fits-all rules will apply equally to homes in the cities as well as those in the off-grid wilderness areas of New England. Don’t worry though; nothing has been mentioned yet about banning outdoor fireplaces, fire pits or chimineas. Or worse yet, enacting federal winter no burn days such as those now in place in the State of Utah or in the city of Denver Co. Remember, when possible, stay warm my friend. I'm looking out the window and watching the snow fall again, and then I think about the gas bill for last month's heating that arrived in the mail yesterday. I have to get a wood stove. very soon Marc Fucarile of Stoneham Ma is one of the survivors of the Boston Marathon Bombing and the last bombing victim that was released from the hospital back in late July. Like many of the survivors, his life was transformed in a second. From one of the many faces in the crowd, he became one of the many faces of the tragedy.
He lost his right leg above the knee, broke his spine, as well as bones in his left leg and foot, ruptured both eardrums and suffered severe burns and shrapnel wounds when the second of two bombs exploded near him. He has undergone 16 trips to the operating room for a total of 49 surgical procedures. Mark, along with his family, recently traveled from Boston to Breckenridge Colorado to participate in the Hartford Ski Spectacular. They were invited by Disabled Sports USA to participate and enjoy some winter activities. more Something’s are better left unsaid, In this case, I can’t. A preacher who was profiled on a National Geographic television show featuring the Full Gospel Tabernacle in Jesus Name church and the practice of serpent-handling has……. take a guess.
For some, the start of the week and for others, vacation, get ready for more snow tomorrow............ 3-7 inches projected. Enjoy Parts of New England are digging out again today from the latest of the endless series of winter storms, from what is now being described as the endless winter.
More snow began falling on Saturday just days after a mammoth snowstorm inundated regions of the Northeast with over a foot of snow. Many parts of the New England coast from Maine to Rhode Island received up to a foot of snow yesterday and there are reports of scattered power outages. This was the third snowstorm that occurred last week. In terms of snowfall totals, I think this is pretty much a normal winter. In terms of temperature, I believe January was the coldest month we have ever seen in our lifetime. We have been spoiled for the last two years with unseasonably warm winters. I remember two years ago in the middle of January, the temp was in the 50s! After the cold temperatures in January and these winter snowfalls that keep coming this month. I am beginning to believe that February will no longer be referred to as the shortest month of the year, but remembered as the longest month. A bomber in Iraq was instructing a class on how to build car bombs this week when he accidently set of the bomb killing himself and 21 would be terrorist. Iraqi security forces then rushed to the scene after the massive explosion and arrested an additional 2 dozen people including 10 that were crawling and limping away after being injured in the explosion. It just goes to prove that sometimes a little luck can be as good as a drone strike in taking out those that believe the killing of innocent people is acceptable. "Karma"
Today, a lot of friends and strangers will get together for the annual Willie Cabey Memorial Ice fishing tournament that will be held at Five Mile pond in Springfield Mass. This annual event is one of the adventures of winter that I would not miss. In past years, the encampment for the group, at the parking lot resembled a giant tailgating party. With folding chairs, tables a warming fire and story tellers enjoying the event. When the attendees get arrive and get all set up, then it's time to enjoy some of John's famous pancakes and sausage links cooked in beer for breakfast. Later on, the lunch will feature, burgers, dogs, chili and kielbasa that are cooked on an oversized wood burning grill. As the group will spread out across the frozen pond, everyone hopes that they will catch the big fish of the day, its always about the bragging rights of catching the big fish rather than the prize. In years gone past, we have seen a full spectrum of winter weather also show up,from bitter cold temperatures with the winds blowing in excess of 40 mph, to a year where there was no ice due to an unseasonably warm weather. Then there are the perfect ones like last year when we enjoyed a sunny day, mild temperatures and a wind factor that was nonexistent. This Ice fishing adventure is more like a traditional winter get together. The fun is getting outside and enjoying friends, stories and adventures. If you catch a fish, it’s a bonus. "Many men go fishing all their lives without knowing it is not the fish their after" H.D. Thoreau Today we are experiencing SNOWMAGGEDON!!!! I’m so damn tired of shoveling snow. But it looks like their having some fun in it over at the Winter Olympics. |
