The cell phone call came in today at exactly 1:13pm. I was driving south on I 93 heading to Derry N.H. The call was anticipated. It was just a matter of when!

Germany had scored and it was 1-0. The voice could not control her enthusiasm. The Frau had made the call to me. One thing about being married to a German is, there is never a doubt as to what team she would be rooting for today for in the big game between the US and Germany.

There had not been a difference at home in rooting for a sports team since the Winter Olympics ended. But here it was again. Like a well rehearsed speech, the true German soccer fan was unleashed again. After I had listened to a bunch of nonstop euphoria and facts, the Frau was yet again telling me why this was the year that Germany was going to win the World Cup.  When she was done we said our good bye and I continued on my delivery schedule.

It was later when I heard on the radio; the US had not been eliminated from the finals due to the point system. I made that return call to state the facts. The reply was so matter of fact, Oh that’s nice. What time do you think you’ll get back today?   WTF

The New Moon begins tonight and the countdown has started for the next Super Moon.

Last Sunday, I did smoke a big 7 ½ pound chicken with the Beer in the Butt. It’s also known as Beer Can chicken. I started with a good rub that I made, covered the bird generously. I then took an empty beer can and poured some Sam Adams Cold Snap into it. That beer has a very good flavor that when it gets into the meet, it works wonders and keeps it very moist. I used apple wood for the smoke and after 5 hrs of indirect cooking, the end result was perfect. The leftover's also made a great chicken salad.
