A Great Ride

5/31/2014

The 3rd Annual Victory for Veterans Motorcycle Run took place today and I rode in the ride again this year. All Money raised from this ride benefits the recreation fund for the Holyoke Soldiers Home Vets yearly activities. The Holyoke Solders Home is the largest long term care facility in New England for Veterans.

It started at the Holyoke Soldiers Home where everyone registered and then lined up for the big event. There were also many of the Vets from the Home who were outside to meet and greet the riders.

This year, there were over 1500 motorcycles that participated in the ride. There was plenty of coffee, bagels, pastries and water available, to all the riders. Vinnie DiMartino from Orange County Choppers was also there to greet the riders, and was more than gracious to do photo’s with anyone who wanted.

The ride left Holyoke and wound through the towns of South Hadley, Granby, Belchertown, Ware, West Warren, Palmer, Wilbraham, Indian Orchard, and Ludlow, it then finished at the Moose Club in Chicopee Ma.

At the Moose Club, everyone was treated to Hamburg’s, Hot Dogs, Chicken, Potato Salad and plenty of fixin’s, with live music performances from Bon Jersey, a Bon Jovi tribute band and Ray Guillemette and his band King Kountry.

The rain held off during the ride, and we only had a very light and fast moving sprinkle, when we got to the Moose Club. It was a good day and a great ride.

Time to get back at it

I had a good long weekend and really enjoyed myself. We finished up yesterday afternoon by taking a trip down to the river. It's a perfect place to walk and relax, and the environment leads easily into good contemplation, and the hopes of a few fish.

The fish weren’t doing much to make the day exciting but the shore lunch that we brought was very good.  It’s now time to get ready for work. Off to North Eastern Vermont and western New Hampshire  today. This week there will be some traveling with a visit to every  New England state during the next four days.

Memorial Day

Across the land today, in print, on TV and in the blog verse, there will be many Memorial Day thanks that will be heard and seen. Songs will be sung; statements of thanks will be spoken.

To the many men and woman who over the years took their turn in the rotation to serve and protect this country, giving their time. They've earned much better than what we have heard of, in the news lately.

 I simply say,

 Thank You.

For the ones that gave everything. All we can do is remember them, perhaps pause, tip your hat or raise a drink to the sky and just say "Thanks."

The work week, is over. It's been interesting, but now I'm ready to relax, and looking forward to the long weekend and the unofficial start of summer! I am going to spend the next three days with a hope of grilling, fishing, a trip to Providence to enjoy Waterfire and hopefully, a last chance this season to get in the woods after a gobbler. Not necessarily in that order.

Have Fun
