In past years, the encampment for the group, at the parking lot resembled a giant tailgating party. With folding chairs, tables a warming fire and story tellers enjoying the event. When the attendees get arrive and get all set up, then it's time to enjoy some of John's famous pancakes and sausage links cooked in beer for breakfast. Later on, the lunch will feature, burgers, dogs, chili and kielbasa that are cooked on an oversized wood burning grill.
As the group will spread out across the frozen pond, everyone hopes that they will catch the big fish of the day, its always about the bragging rights of catching the big fish rather than the prize. In years gone past, we have seen a full spectrum of winter weather also show up,from bitter cold temperatures with the winds blowing in excess of 40 mph, to a year where there was no ice due to an unseasonably warm weather. Then there are the perfect ones like last year when we enjoyed a sunny day, mild temperatures and a wind factor that was nonexistent.
This Ice fishing adventure is more like a traditional winter get together. The fun is getting outside and enjoying friends, stories and adventures. If you catch a fish, it’s a bonus.
"Many men go fishing all their lives without knowing it is not the fish their after"
