U2

U2 released a new single during the commercials on Super Bowl Sunday. I now believe that I may be one of the few people in the world that did not see the song done that day. Was it the time I went for a second helping of wings or to grab another cold one from the fridge? Whatever happened, I missed the song at commercial break.

The song, Invisible, was a sneak preview off their upcoming album. I did hear the new song last weekend and I hope that U2 has changed their musical direction again. I am defiantly an old school fan of their music. I would listen to their albums over and over as the music thumped through my body like a heartbeat. Back in the 80s, the band produced some of the greatest rock albums in history.

Later there was a pattern that began to emerge, music was still being released by the band but no one was buying it. The concerts have always been a huge and for many, a chance to see a super band and listen to some live versions of the classics.

The bands last album, “No Line on the Horizon” was just plain bad and for most old school diehard U2 fans, just too far away from the style of music that brought them to the top so long ago. The last album was also the worst selling album that the band has ever put out.

Ten years ago, Bono made an announcement that the band was reapplying again for the job of the best band in the world. Well that was ten years ago and most of the fans are still waiting. This new song that I heard defiantly had a style that sounded a bit like vintage U2 but with an edge.

I will admit that this song was good, and for the first time in a long time I am anticipating listening to the album. We will all know soon enough whether they have found that sweet sound again. I hope they do!
