We took a ride in Ct. today and stopped to see the Granby Oak Tree. We have seen this massive old oak tree before, but never in the winter, covered in snow. This tree is huge and has stretched its branches for more than 450 years. Think about that. It has suffered a few mishaps in the last five years. The October snowstorm of 2011 took a very hard toll on the tree causing it to loose some of the branches.
There is something wild and beautiful, yet strange about this tree. It has long ground hugging branches that give it the sense of being a large creature that is reaching out to grab a hold of whatever is within its reach. You actually have to step over the branches as you walk around the tree.
It has been called, one of the most picturesque trees in New England. The Granby Oak Tree is connected to the town of Granby Ct. The plaque, at the entrance of the Town Hall bears the trees image. The tree is located north of Granby center on Day Road.
