Cupid is welcome but candy is not. That’s the new rule this year at the Harwinton Consolidated School in Connecticut. Parents received an email from the principal directing them to make sure candy was not attached to any Valentine’s Day cards, instead the principal suggested “art supplies.”
Okay, I can appreciate banning candies containing nuts as it relates to food allergies, but those little candy hearts with the silly sayings? The move follows that of the Horace Mann School in Newton Mass which started that same policy in 2012.
Nothing Says “Be My Valentine” like a heart on a piece of construction paper that is cut out in class. Wait a minute; the kids don’t have scissors anymore either. I think it’s pretty safe to say that we will see a whole lot more of this in the future.
