The Memorial Day Holiday originally began after the Civil War to honor Union soldiers who lost their lives in the war. The holidays original name, Decoration Day, came from the day's main activity: leaving flowers to honor the fallen at cemeteries.
More recently, it has come to mark the unofficial beginning of summer for many. Along with parades doused in red, white and blue, cook-outs in the backyard and excursions to the local beach for a long weekend.
But one thing should never be forgotten. Veterans are still being mistreated and abandoned by our government. The reality is that today, our veterans have never in the history of this country, been asked to do so much for a government that has been grossly incompetent in taking care of their needs. As citizen’s of this country, we can never forget the sacrifices that were made by those before, or are being made now, by the very few who allow us to live a safe and secure life today.
All gave Some, Some gave All
