As the tough economy continues, I will try my best to list some fun free things to do here on a weekly basis every Wednesday with the posting of, “Fun Freebies in New England”. Here are a few of the events that will be held this week.
Saturday ........Waterfire ...............................................................................................Providence RI
This will be the first full lighting this year for Waterfire. Over eighty bonfires will be lit along the river in downtown Providence. As you walk along the paths in Waterfront Park, past the arched bridges and beautiful sculptures; your senses will be captivated by the flames, aromas of burning wood and music from around the world. There will be torch-lit vessels that travel down the river to light the bonfires. Also, there are numerous street performers and performances by Fire Dancers, The Gargoyles and the Phantom Boatman. WaterFire has been enjoyed by of over ten million visitors since its flames were first lit in 1994. This is a must see event for 2014, It is free but donations are what keep it going.
Saturday........Riverfront Summer Pops Concert...................................................East Hartford Ct
Spend an evening on the Riverfront with the professional concert band, the Middletown Symphonic Band. This event will celebrate Memorial Day and features wind, brass and percussion instruments.
Sunday.........Blackstone Valley River Tour ....................................................... Central Falls, RI
On the last Sunday of the month, the Blackstone River cruise offer's, free cruises along the river. You may see swan, herons, geese, ducks, turtles, hawks and beautiful plants and trees! The tour guide explains the ecology of the river and surrounding wetlands along with stories about the people and history of the region. Every time you go out on the river, you’re bound to see something cool !
