Bobs Clam Hut

I am a lover of the classic fried food from the sea, the whole bellied fried clam. So sweet and juicy, it will explode with flavor in your mouth.  When fried in a light batter, the sweetness and subtle taste of the sea are one of life’s guilty pleasures.  Each bite is a little bit of heaven!  Yes I know that they are some of the worst summertime foods to eat. They are just so bad, right up there next to my other good friends, the lobster Roll, Hot Dogs, BBQ Ribs and the dreaded Onion Rings.

I have been pretty lucky this month; my job has brought me to the Kittery Trading Post in Maine every Wednesday for four straight weeks. Well at lunch time I did not have to go far to grab a quick bite to eat. Right next door to the Trading Post is the famous
Bobs Clam Hut.  My love for the whole belly clams is so strong that on a couple of those trips, Bobs drew me in like a moth to the flame. On both occasions that I went this month I ordered the clam roll. The clams are fresh and perfectly cooked with a taste that is one of the best you will ever have. It is served on a toasted roll with Fries that were also very good. Now with that said, if you go there you should be prepared to pay for it. This year the price of a clam roll with fries is now over the twenty dollar mark. The cost with the taxes included is $20.28 to be exact. This is the first time I have ever seen a clam roll that cost more than twenty dollars at a road side stand and it is more expensive than a lobster roll. Bob's is a great local place but with all the national attention they have received it has now become a bit overpriced. Its like  that old saying, the best things in life aren’t cheap.

Helene and I will be back “Upta" Maine again next week for  the last days of summer and the opportunity to take in the sights, smells and taste of Southern Maine .Thank God I live in New England and I can take these Road Trips to so many  great places  that are so close to home. I shed a tear for those who are less fortunate, geographically speaking.
