Ignoring the issue and validity of the rancher's case, I’m grateful that there wasn't an open range war because it got to the point where there was an armed standoff between the Feds and Bundy supporters. With rifles pointing toward each other and tensions reaching a critical level, federal land officials backed off and agreed to give up the cattle to Bundy’s family and supporters on Saturday. There is nothing good that could come from a gun battle between the Feds and a group of armed citizens that are opposed to the governments actions.
This country is a democracy and if the Feds were wrong, there are correct ways that the issues can be resolved. I don't support the actions of either side on this one and I am grateful that some hot heads on both sides did not get their way and create a blood bath. The supporters of Bundy had forced the closure of Interstate 15 after marching to the holding pen on the side of the highway where the standoff took place.
The Government contends that Bundy has an outstanding tax bill for the grazing of his cattle and also its goal to protect a critical habitat of the threatened desert tortoise. Get informed because there is a lot to read about this issue.
