Cities across the country continue to report increases in shootings and killings since the pandemic began. Shootings and homicides, which dipped during the initial lock-down phase of the pandemic, are now rising at alarmingly high rates.

We can thank those liberal mayors who instead of supporting the police, allowed the police budgets to be cut amid growing calls for police reform and the prominence of the "defund the police" movement amid BLM protests, following the killing of George Floyd.

We can thank those city counsels who accused their police forces of systemic racism and incited violence against police.

We can thank those media outlets who have purposely driven a false narrative that all police are systemically racist when study after study after study has shown otherwise.

We can thank Liberal leaders who pulled their plain clothes police officers off the streets, limited policing in the most dangerous neighborhoods and released criminals during the virus.

We can thank the courts, who have been "emptying out the prisons" or instituted terrible bail reforms that have achieved the same thing. This must certainly has led to a feeling among offenders that they can commit crimes with impunity.

In addition, I'm sure we can even thank the police, who in some cities, are less proactive in their enforcement duties in order to avoid interactions with the public that could spread the virus, or just keep a low profile in order to stay safe.

Spirits are low, in many departments. In many cities, officers are putting in their papers and retiring. The Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Union said in a press release that 71% of the members it surveyed are considering leaving MPD. Of those, almost 40% are planning to leave law enforcement entirely.
