These 2018 Red Sox Really Are That Great
With the 2018 season now over, this has been a season to remember from start to finish. The Red Sox finished the regular season with a club-record 108 wins, then went 11-3 in the postseason, beating the 100-win New York Yankees and the 103-win and defending World Series champions the Houston Astros in the playoffs.
Boston won its ninth divisional title, tying the Athletics for third-most behind the Yankees (27) and Cardinals (11). Since ending that championship drought in 2004, the Red Sox have become baseball's powerhouse team with four World Series titles in 15 seasons.
This was also victory number 119 this year for the Red Sox. A mark bested only by the 1998 Yankees (125) and the 2001 Mariners (120). The Red Sox have also joined the 1909 Pirates, 1927 Yankees, 1970 Orioles, 1975 Reds, 1986 Mets and 1998 Yankees as the only teams to lead their league in runs, win 108 or more games and win the World Series. These guys are relentless.
When the story is told of the 2018 Red Sox in the World Series, it will be losing the longest game in the 114-year history of the MLB postseason. An 18-inning outing that was Game 3, and the next day coming back from four runs down to win Game 4. In the tales of Red Sox lore, which of course included that 2004 team that killed the curse and brought unbridled joy throughout the borders of Red Sox Nation. This was as good as it gets.
It’s Just a Time Out
After a string of mail bombings targeting Democrats ended in the arrest of a Florida man, Democrat leaders announced the commencement of a brief moratorium on calling for political violence against their foes.
Democrats said they would cease calling for violent attacks on conservatives "at least until this whole mail bomb thing is out of the news cycle."
"Once all this blows over, we will resume demonizing our opponents and calling for mobs to harass people we disagree with in public," said Maxine Waters at the press event. "We really thought our words would only incite violence against the right, and hadn't really thought about it going back the other way. But now that we see how destructive and detrimental violence really is, we'll just cool our jets for a bit." More
