Many of us in New England are getting ready to welcome the migratory fishing season. April-May is when the Herring, Shad and Stripers are migrating from the ocean and up into the rivers. The Herring and Shad come up to lay and fertilize their eggs. The Stripers are following behind and looking for an easy meal.
The Herring is the Stripers primary food during this annual migration season. Starting this weekend, It’s time to get ready and start throwing a lot of top water baits at them. For me, the Connecticut River is about to see a lot of visits during the evening hours.
