This week, my sister and brother-in-law have been visiting from San Diego. There have been day trips to the Big E, Grandchildren’s birthday parties and the Berkshires. But we also had some additional plans. With the bags packed, Helene and I took them on a road trip. We did not have a lot of time available for what we wanted to see, but we made the best of the time we had.
Sometimes, all you need is an open road, good weather, and great company. This last week, we were fortunate enough to have them all. We did not spend a lot of time in any one location, but the sights were many and so were the miles. It was a bit exhausting when it was all over, but it sure was a lot of fun.
We kicked off the adventure with a trip to Hampton Beach and then up the coast to Portsmouth NH. My brother in law had never been in that city so there was a combination of sightseeing in the old city and relaxing on the waterfront. When that adventure was over, we headed up to Wells Maine. While in Maine, there were trips to the Nuble Lighthouse, Ogunquit, Kennebunkport and a great scenic drive along the rocky coast.
At one point as we were driving along the coast, we saw some splashing in a small harbor. We stopped the car and watched what was happening for a little bit, we soon realized that there was a group of seals swimming in this uninhabited area.
While we were in Maine, we also enjoyed some very good restaurants and one that was ok at best. We also had a chance to enjoy an outside experience at a lobster pound. It was a special treat for the Californians due to the great weather that we have been experiencing. This fresh steamers and lobsters was a big hit with everyone.
There was also one night that was spent in North Conway NH. We left the coast and drove to the White Mountains to see some fall foliage. We took a drive along route 302 through Crawford Notch to The Cog Railroad and the base of Mt Washington. Later there was another drive over the Kancamagus Trail. The Foliage is really starting to show its brilliant colors in the mountains. It was a special treat for everyone. This week will be a great one to get out and enjoy the foliage if you have a chance.
The travelers have now left this morning and are on their way back to California. For me, it’s time to sit back and reflect on those experiences that we were fortunate enough to have together.

A path comes into being.
