With the summer now coming to a close, this will be the last weekly posting of the Fun Freebies segment this year. I will continue to publish items of interest as they happen and any other good stuff that I come across.  I hope you all have enjoyed this weekly feature and were also able to take advantage of something you found listed here. You will be able to see the Fun Freebies weekly  segment here again next year.

With the summer music series for cities and towns now also coming to a close, there are a couple of shows that I am planning to attend this week that are worth mentioning. On Thursday, the Stearns Square Free Concert series in Springfield Ma will feature The Smithereens. The 80s alternative Rock and Roll band will be the headliner for the final performance of this fun weekly concert series.

This Saturday, “The River 92.5” radio station will hold its annual Riverfront Music Festival in Newburyport Mass. Toad and the Wet Sprocket will be the Headliner for this year's show. There will also be an additional four very good acts that will also be performing.  Guests are encouraged to get there early for this huge end of the summer event. Don’t forget your beach blankets & chairs for a day of great live music and a super Labor Day Weekend show!

Free Fun Friday's                                                                 Friday throughout Massachusetts

This will be the last week in 2014 that
The Highland Street Foundation will sponsor free admission to the many Museums, Zoo's and other cultural and fun destinations. This program is open to all Ma. residents thanks to a very generous family foundation.

Boston Arts Festival                                                            Saturday and Sunday Boston Ma

The Boston Arts Festival is designed to launch Boston’s arts season. The free festival is a showcase of more than 40-juried visual artists who exhibit and sell one-of-a-kind and limited edition works of art including paintings, sculpture, ceramics, pottery, jewelry, fine glasswork, woodwork, mixed media, and photography. The visual arts are complemented by a performing arts & interactive arts program.

Plymouth Folk and Blues Festival                           Saturday and Sunday, Plymouth Notch Vt

The tenth annual Plymouth Folk and Blues Festival will take place at the President Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site in Plymouth Notch, Vermont. Stars from Vermont and nationally known musicians team up for a lively two-day festival of folk and blues music performed in the pure country air of historic Plymouth Notch. Please help support the food drive for the Vermont Food Bank by also bringing non-perishable food items to the concerts.

The Berklee Sumer in the City Concerts  Series                                       Greater Boston Ma

This concert series, presents more than 200 free performances throughout the Greater Boston area from May through September. Bringing neighborhoods alive with free programs of pop, rock, jazz, Latin, and more, some of Berklee’s most promising young artists are poised to share the skills they hone on campus with the local community.

National Museum Day is next month on September 27th.  There are many museums all over the Northeast and the Country that participate in this program. The Smithsonian Museum will send you free tickets to visit the museum of your choice if you submit the request to them. To receive your free Museum Day Live!
