Go for it tonight

The elusive northern lights should be making a rare appearance tonight and possibly for the next two nights.   The projections by the astronomers who know this stuff are looking very good. They are now calling these nights, “storm level projections”.

There have not been any great sightings reported in New England since the first week of last October and when it did happen that week, northern New England saw a few nights of great light shows that were put on courtesy of the northern lights.

Watching this celestial phenomenon is truly a magnificent sight and a photographers dream. If you are planning a trip to see the aurora there are a few things that you must consider.

The first is the timing and then be ready for the word to travel. The next is location, head north and head rural. With clear skies in the forecast for tonight and a cloudy forecast for tomorrow, be on the lookout if you are up after midnight.

There should be no interference from city lights. Light pollution is the light that bleeds into the night sky, even if you can't see the "glow" of a nearby plaza; it’s there and will reduce images in the night sky. And last but not least is weather: will it be clear? If you have all those pieces going for you, grab the camera, tripod and  “go for it”

There are a few good web sites available that I follow this stuff with and have added the links to below.

Change of Seasons

I’m sipping my coffee right now and thinking about today.  I see from my window this morning a nice Blue sky. Just a perfect morning that is already pushing a refreshing 65 degree air through the screen windows.  After the heat and humidity that we all experienced yesterday, followed by the storms that came through parts of the area last night, what a relief today should be.

A little later this morning, I am looking forward to the old Sunday breakfast routine now that the summer is over. There’s the apple wood smoked bacon in the fridge that needs to hit the frying pan. It will be accompanied with sautéed mushrooms in a sharp Vermont Cheddar Cheese Omelet, lightly dusted with fresh ground black pepper. This type of breakfast is my Sunday routine that is enjoyed only during the fall and winter.

With Sunday Football also starting later today, the club will get back into the swing of things with weekly football pools and a tailgate party. The tailgate grill will be setup outside the entrance door. Today’s opener will feature Burgers, Hot Dogs and Corn on the Cob from the grill. Inside the game will be on and Cold ones available for desert.

It’s good to have a regular place to go watch the game if you decide to go out on game day.  Today, my living room will be spared.  I have tomorrow off, so another three day weekend is part of the plan.

We all know that the Patriots roster this year looks very good and the team should have a legitimate shot of going deep into the winter still playing football.  Pats fans also know that the haters will get their voices going by mid season and the BS will again begin to spew out of their mouths. The truth is, they hate our team because they are a winning organization.

Yes, Life has again begun to normalize with the coming of a new season, and I can forget about this years Red Sox disaster. The last of the Supermoons will shine brightly in the sky for the next couple of nights. The September moon is also called the Harvest moon.

Two women were taking pictures of the seals in their kayaks Wednesday from the waters off the South Shore.  A great white shark then came up from the deep and bit into one off the kayaks.  It caused both boats to overturn in the attack. Today there are two very lucky young ladies that will be coming down for breakfast.    more

Released 32 years ago today on the album titled “It’s Hard”. In my humble opinion, this is “The Who’s” best song ever. The Band will also start the 50th anniversary tour later this year in the fall.   Enjoy, and a little head bopping is ok.

Once you realize that the road is the goal and that you are always on the road, not to reach a goal, but to enjoy its beauty and its wisdom, life ceases to be a task and becomes natural and simple, in itself an ecstasy.

Sorry for the delay on posting, but this last road trip was a  non stop adventure.  Helene and I took off to the coast of southern Maine with friends. It was a great weekend for food, drink and weather.

Some of the Highlights of the trip for me was a drive up to Kennebunkport.   Included in that trip was lunch and a couple of cold ones at Federal Jacks, home of Shipyard Beer.  We enjoyed a beautiful day lust sitting there overlooking the harbor There was also a trip to The Beach Plum Lobster Farm in Ogunquit Me.  It came highly recommended by both Bob and Karen who have raved about the food.  The food was just as they had described it fantastic. I have found my new go-to stop for fresh Steamers and Lobsters in that area.

There was a bunch of miles driven during this fast paced getaway, the only beach time that I saw was a few minutes with my toes in the water, but t did not see that as a big problem. I have a history of turning into a lobster when I spend to much time out in the direct sun. We was also made trips to York Me,  Cape Neddick, Kittery Port  and Portsmouth NH. We saw a lot, and came back with a smile and some good memories.

Don't blink, because the leaves are starting to change into their fall colors,  in four more weeks we should have peak colors showing off in Northern New England. I hope there are a few good pictures that were taken on the trip. I will find out tonight when I get back home from work,  the road is calling again.
