Today's life style is busy for both dads and the family. So, a little relaxation time on Father's day is just what is needed.  With the arrival of a beautiful summer day that will be in the 80s, I can’t resist firing up the grill for an outdoor experience on Father's Day.

After all, the best way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. My goal today will be to master the art of apple wood smoked “Beer Can Chicken”.

I share today with every other father in America –for me it’s an excuse to fire up the charcoal, drink some beer, and bask in the glory of being “Dad “ without having a list of to-do stuff.

For the rest of you Dads, have a great day.

A terrible loss in the on the road this week

A public service announcement  .....quick chill your beer

The Drunkest State in the US is still New Hampshire, but Vermont is now number 9

Another bad day in a jihadi bombers class......warning graphic video

Flag Day

6/14/2014

Today is Flag Day. Our Nations beloved Flag has flown high in many different circumstances. From the Battle of Bunker Hill to the Apollo landing on the moon. It has stood for freedom and is easily recognized all over the world.

But it all started In May 1776, when Betsy Ross reported she sewed the first American flag. On June 14 of the following year Continental Congress passed the First Flag Resolution on June 14, 1777.

“Resolved, that the flag of the United States be made of thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation and the  states Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, South Carolina, New Hampshire, Virginia, New York, North Carolina, and Rhode Island.

“Today the flag consists of thirteen horizontal stripes. They are seven red alternating with six white,” according to the site. “The stripes represent the original 13 colonies and the stars represent the 50 states of the Union.”

In 1916, after years of unofficially celebrating the holiday, it was made official by President Woodrow Wilson in a presidential proclamation and was finally made “National Flag Day” through an act of Congress by President Harry Truman in 1949.

Later this week, Friday will fall on the 13th of the month. It will also fall on a day that has a full moon as well. This is a date that many people associate with bad luck. There are many theories about why Fridays which fall on the 13th day of the month are unlucky. It also happens to be the only month in 2014 that a Friday the 13th will occur.

Some believe that Friday the 13th has origins in Christianity. According to the Bible, Jesus was crucified on a Friday, and there were 13 men at the Last Supper, Jesus and his 12 disciples. In addition, Judas the disciple who betrayed Jesus was the 13th to sit at the table.

Another legend is that in 1306, King Philip of France arrested a group of the revered Knights Templar on Friday the 13th, and began torturing them, marking the occasion as a day of evil.

Both Friday and the number 13 were once closely associated with capital punishment. Friday was the conventional day for public hangings, and there were supposedly 13 steps leading up to the noose and 13 loops on the noose.

By some estimates, businesses lose millions of dollars on Friday the 13th because people are hesitant to make deals, travel or shop as they would at other times.

I don't believe in the Friday the 13th superstition. I am not superstitious by nature, but there are just a couple that I do strongly believe in.

It’s bad luck to jump out of a plane without a parachute                   .                                                       It’s bad luck to step in front of an oncoming train.
It’s bad luck to jump out of a car speeding down the freeway.

I know it’s probably foolish to think that way, but I just can't help it.

Today is not just the sixth day of June; it was and always will be D-day.  I will honor all of the veterans of the greatest generation by being thankful for the sacrifice’s they made in the face of death, against a Brutal Narcissistic Dictator. To my fellow veterans and their families I say God Bless You and God Bless America!

Picture
Today is also National Doughnut Day  The special day dedicated to everyone's favorite fried and iced dough began back in 1938. Credit goes to the Chicago Salvation Army, which originally started the holiday to commemorate women who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I. To celebrate, two of the largest doughnut chains in the country are offering up freebies.

Dunkin' Donuts will be giving away a free dessert in honor of the holiday. Purchase any beverage and you will receive a free donut of your choice (while supplies last.)
