My Battle Has Begun
I have a giant groundhog living under my next-door neighbor's shed. The reason I know its a giant is that at lunch time yesterday, I was out at the vegetable garden to see if anymore cucumbers went missing and there it was. It was in the backyard out in the open and making its way towards my supermarket at high noon.

It saw me and retreated right away but I watched the escape and found out it had dug a hole under the fence from the neighbor's yard and had been out exploring in the new neighborhood that it recently has settled into. The first thought was, “the veggies must be saved”.

I have endured these battles with critters in the past and have always lost. They have wiped out the sweet peppers, tomatoes, lettuce, eggplant and the cucumbers. They find your garden and will eat and destroy everything that is in front of them. It is the main reason I started planting more in raised beds.

It is painful having grown everything from seeds just to watch it disappear in days. It was now time to setup and load the Hav-A-Hart trap. Living in the city, that is the only thing I can legally load up or another option would be called into action as well. I then went right to the carrots, cukes and lettuce that I have growing in the garden and picked some really quick. It was time to bait the trap.

I am now committed to the details of guard duty.  I must sit and wait for the beast to come back by and try to eat all those goodies that I have planted, nurtured and been enjoying from the vegetable garden this year. Yesterday I saw who done it.  He is now my enemy, there will never be a welcome sign or free lunch for That Groundhog.
