A haircut is something that I need every couple of months. I was now a month and a half overdue and beginning to look like something from the Chia pet collection. I have been traveling to different barbers and stylist for over a couple years since my barber of over 30 years has retired. There was never a feeling of uneasiness when I went to visit him, because my haircut was the same every time.
I was prepared to go to a chain salon this weekend for yet another experience into the unknown world of getting a haircut. Who would be there to deliver yet another version of my new style? That’s not to say they have all been bad. But there have been a few that caused me to wear my baseball hat a little longer than normal. The last one definitely fell in that category. After going to the same barber for as long as I had, nowadays, each new adventure to the salon means a little apprehension. Will I be lucky enough to get by another experience without being butchered? As I was driving to a chain store of hair salon's today, I noticed a neon sign lit up with the word "open". It was a small hair salon that I had never seen before. . What also caught my eye was another sign out front that said men’s haircut $10. I had never noticed this place before. I thought, if I’m going into the world of the unknown today, the price is right so it’s time to roll the dice. I turned around and drove back into the parking lot. When I walked into the front door, there was one older guy in the chair and a young lady at the controls, working a pair of scissors. She was just finishing up his high and tight haircut. She cheerfully asked, what can I do for you today? I replied that I did not have a reservation, but could she take a walk in? She replied politely. “No problem, I am just about finished and will be with you shortly.” I sat down and briefly browsed through the reading material. There was a couple of gossip magazines, but no Popular Mechanics, Sports Illustrated or guy stuff that I would enjoyed to read in the old days as I sat to wait my turn at Angelo's Barbershop. I know this probably sounds bad, but I was relieved to see a young lady for a change. I have had many people cut my hair during the last couple of years while I have become a nomad, without the same stylist or barber as I have traveled to different salons. I have not had an attractive young woman cut my hair during these many trips. I’ve also learned through this experience that you need to be very specific when indicating what type of haircut you want or you’ll be wearing your baseball hat for weeks. “So, what would you like done today?” she asked. Short on the side, a little longer on the top to cover up a bit of the new thinning effect that is part of age and squared in the back,” I replied. She smiled and grabbed the electric razor. She then hooked up a number two on the razor, hit the switch and it started to hum as the hair from the side of my head began to fall. It didn’t take long for the small talk to begin. “How long have you worked here, how long has the salon been here, are you busy?” I asked. “I work three days a week, the shop has been open a year and doing well” she replied. In a short time the electric razor was turned off, the scissors were clipping as she was finishing up. She picked up the razor again and asked, “How short would you like the sideburns?” “Just a little higher than they are now please,” and with that she was finished. Despite all my anxiety, Jessica had delivered a good haircut. As I got up and turned to walk over to the cash register. Jessica was promptly there and said “That will be $10,” I paid her the ten and another $5 for a tip. Did I look great? Well there is not enough time in the day to get me looking that good but I got through another experience without being butchered and gotten more than my money’s worth. As I walked out the door, I felt a little spring in my step. I believe I found a new place to go, because I don't like being a Nomad or having all that anxiety when it's time to get another haircut. A couple laughs that I also hadgot this week Crack smoking Mayors approval rating is higher than Obama Just a little reaction Fred Phelps, the former head of the hate Group called Westboro Baptist Church passed away this week. He was without a doubt, the most vile, evil-spirited man that has walked the streets in the last 25 years. His goal was to cause a lot of harm and pain to innocent families while he spread his word of hate. He and his followers would hold hate vigils at funeral services for American soldiers killed in war with signs that read “God Hates Fags”.
I have never seen so much hate emanate from a man that says he speaks for the God of Love. It is sad to think of all the hatred that this man possessed, as he and his followers tried to push out his sick moral agenda. The group had claimed to have picketed 53,000 events. Here are just a couple of the recent high-profile funerals that the church protested, or threatened to picket . Boston Marathon victim, Sandy Hook victims, The one thing that did come about as a result of the protest that the WBC would stage at soldiers funerals. Americans became a united group against the hate that this group would spew. Democrats, Republicans, Christians, Jews, White, Black, Young and Old would also show up at the same funerals and create a wall of people in front of this Hate Group. A sign of support as well as being able to shield the grieving families from these nut jobs. It had been reported that a few months ago, He was “excommunicated” from the church that he once founded. If there’s any good to be found from the life of a crazy man, it’s that many of Fred’s thirteen children and extended family members have escaped from his indoctrination. Northern Spring The day is here, we have all dreamed about The hopes of the winter, is now here no doubt Spring has arrived, the signs will soon show As the ground quickly melts, the last of the snow The days now grow longer, as the sun warms the land Couples now walk, in the park holding hands The moods will now change, as the colors arrive Take a deep breath, its good to be alive kpm If you are an early riser in the morning, look to the skies just after 5am tomorrow morning for a chance to see the International Space Station. The ISS will be visible in the night sky for only a couple of minutes as it passes across the night time sky.
The Space Station can easily be spotted with the naked eye. Because of its size, it reflects a large amount of sunlight. You should also be able to see it for the next week in the early morning hours as long as we have clear night. You can check out the ISS link here. It’s a known fact that fast food workers make very little money. But “allegedly” some McDonald’s restaurants think those employees make a big paycheck and want to cut some of it back.
A group of McDonald's workers in Michigan, California and New York filed suits against McDonalds last week, accusing the fast food giant of refusing to pay overtime, ordering people to work off the clock, and straight up erasing hours from timecards. If these allegations prove to be true, then the company has been illegally screwing people who are being paid a minimum wage that in some cases is a screwing to begin with. |
